Specialist High Skills Major
Clarke High School offers two Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Programs in Health and Wellness and Construction. Students can apply in grade 10 for their specific sector and begin the program in grade 11. Successful completion of SHSM is indicated on the student’s Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) by a Red Seal designation.
The Health and Wellness SHSM Program prepares students for careers in healthcare, fitness, mental health, and other wellness-related fields. Through a combination of courses, experiential learning opportunities, certification and awareness training programs all provide students with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the growing health care sector.
The Construction SHSM Program offers students a comprehensive introduction to the construction industry by providing opportunities to explore careers in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and building design. Students gain valuable experience through hands-on learning and completion of safety certifications which builds the technical skills required for a successful career in the growing construction sector.
Both SHSM Programs prepare students for their pathway to apprenticeship, college, university or work.
